Walid Regragui, the former coach of the Moroccan national team, was keen to congratulate the Atlas Lions after they qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, following their 3-0 victory over Canada in the Round of 16, under the leadership of current coach Mohamed Wahbi.
Regragui, who led Morocco to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, posted a picture on his Instagram account featuring Mohamed Wahbi and a number of Moroccan national team players, celebrating the achievement made by the team.
With this qualification, the Moroccan national team continued to make history, becoming the first African team to reach the quarter-finals in two different World Cup editions, following their historic achievement in the 2022 edition.
Other African teams have previously reached the quarter-finals, namely Cameroon in the 1990 World Cup, Senegal in the 2002 edition, and Ghana in the 2010 edition, but Morocco became the first team from the continent to achieve this feat in two consecutive editions.
The United States, Canada, and Mexico will host the 2026 World Cup, featuring 48 teams for the first time, from June 11 to July 19.
