French club Nice announced Mohamed Abdelmonem's departure from the Egyptian national team camp, bringing to mind a previous situation involving all three parties that also resulted in the international defender missing out on selection for the Pharaohs.
Mohamed Abdelmonem moved to Nice from Al Ahly in August 2024. The young defender traveled to France to finalize the contract just seven days before the start of the international break.
Abdelmonem's apology and Hossam Hassan's statements
Abdelmonem apologized for not attending the national team camp due to his desire to focus with his new club to continue his physical preparation, a decision approved by the national team technical staff led by Hossam Hassan.
In previous remarks at a press conference on September 5, 2024, ahead of the match against Cape Verde, Hossam Hassan said: "Nice had no problem with Abdelmonem joining up, and they postponed his unveiling press conference, but Abdelmonem was insistent on staying with his club to complete his physical conditioning."
He added: "Desire is number one for me. Abdelmonem is one of the very dedicated players, and I have great confidence in him. I did not overlook the issue, but I am trying to support him."
The situation repeats itself... Nice keeps Abdelmonem away from Egypt's national team camp
During the September 2026 camp, after Mohamed Abdelmonem sat on the bench during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola, Egypt team manager Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that it was decided to remove Mohamed Abdelmonem from the squad traveling to South Sudan.
Ibrahim Hassan explained that this decision was made because the player had previously undergone cruciate ligament surgery, and medical warnings advised against playing on the artificial turf pitch for the South Sudan match, based on the medical report from his French club, Nice.
Nice club announced Mohamed Abdelmonem's departure from the Egyptian national team camp, confirming the international defender's absence from the Pharaohs' squad.
