The Italian Football Federation is living in a state of chaos during the recent period, as there is a clear crisis following the failure of the Italian national team to reach the World Cup finals, which was played this year in America, Canada, and Mexico.
In light of this chaos, a number of people left their positions, most notably Gianluigi Buffon, the goalkeeping legend, who left his position as general coordinator of the Italian national team.
Also, during the past few days, Paolo Maldini resigned from his position as technical director of the Italian national team, along with Leonardo, who was working as an advisor alongside Maldini.
Similar to the controversial events in the Italian Federation, the president, Giovanni Malago, announced the appointment of Diana Bianchedi as head of the Italian national team delegation (general coordinator), succeeding Buffon.
The appointment of Bianchedi as general coordinator of the Italian national team is truly a controversial decision, as she has no experience related to football, as she was a former champion in foil fencing and was an Olympic champion in the years 1992 and 2000.

Bianchedi had previously served as vice president of the Italian Olympic Committee in 2025.
Malago commented on the appointment of Bianchedi as the new general coordinator of the Italian national team, saying in statements reported by the "Football Italia" website: "Football should no longer be viewed as an entity separate from other sports".
He added: "Diana enjoys great status and credibility, she is an Olympic champion on two occasions, has a biography full of disciplines, holds a degree in medicine, a master's in sports management, and served as vice president of the Italian Olympic Committee".
He concluded: "I want to say that there has been a cultural revolution in the recent period, as being the vice president of the Italian Olympic Committee, and at the same time, the media face of the Italian national team, is like returning football to become a center of comprehensive dialogue with the rest of the other sports".
