Brazilian Santos club star Neymar hinted at his international retirement with the Brazil national team.
Neymar's announcement came after Santos' 4-2 victory over Venezuelan Universidad Central, at dawn today, Wednesday, in the Copa Sudamericana tournament.
Speaking about his career with the national team, the striker expressed his current feeling of distance towards his role with Brazil.
Neymar hints at retiring from international play
Neymar said in press statements: "My time with the national team is over, I have made history and was very happy, I did everything in my power, I have always fought and given the best I have for the yellow jersey, but now I no longer want to do that."
The player's statements are consistent with the statements he made after Brazil's 2-1 loss to Norway in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, where he said: "It's over now."
And if this represents his official departure, Neymar will conclude his illustrious international career with 130 international matches, 80 goals, including nine goals in World Cup matches, and 58 decisive passes.
