Al Ahly has begun studying the file regarding the start date of the preparation camp for the new season scheduled in Spain, due to the potential match against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Cup.
It is expected that Al Ahly will play against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Cup on August 19, according to Spanish press reports.
FilGoal.com has learned that Al Ahly is considering adjusting the start date of its camp in Spain to begin in the first week of August instead of July 31.
If an agreement is reached with Barcelona to play the match, Al Ahly will try to reschedule it for an earlier date due to the limited time before the start of the Egyptian League.
It will be difficult for Al Ahly to play the match on August 19 and then have the Egyptian League start on the 20th of the same month.
The Spanish newspaper "Marca" had previously revealed that Al Ahly's participation comes as part of the agreement between the two clubs in the deal for Al Ahly player Hamza Abdel Karim's transfer to Barcelona.
Thus, Al Ahly would be the first Arab team to participate in the Joan Gamper Cup since the tournament's new format was introduced in 1997.
Al Ahly and Barcelona have met twice in friendly matches, the first in 2007 which ended with a 4-0 victory for Barcelona during Al Ahly's centenary celebrations, while Al Ahly lost 4-1 in another friendly held at Wembley Stadium in 2009.
It was previously revealed by FilGoal.com that Al Ahly will hold its preparation camp for the new season in Spain between July 31 and August 12.
Al Ahly announced the appointment of Moroccan Hussein Ammouta as the team's technical director starting from next season.
Al Ahly held a press conference to introduce Wael Gomaa as director of football and Ammouta as technical director.
Al Ahly also announced the signing of the duo Ali Mahmoud and Oktay Abdullah from Enppi.
