Croatia's Luka Modric emphasized that he feels ashamed for the first time in his career with the national team after the match against England.
Croatia lost to England by seven goals without reply in the third round of the UEFA Nations League.
Modric told journalists after the match: "There were no tackles, no intensity, and no unity. I have been playing with the national team for 20 years, and I must say that I feel ashamed for the first time after a match."
He continued, "You can lose, and the opponent can be better than you, but to lose in this manner and tarnish your reputation like this is unacceptable. For the first time in 20 years, I truly feel ashamed."
He added, "From the first minute to the last, we played in this way, and this is not the style in which football should be played. Even if you play with 9 players, you cannot play like this, while we looked as if we were playing with only 6 or 7 players. It was a disastrous night."
Croatia's points tally remained at 3, placing them third in the group behind England and leaders Spain.
