Paolo Maldini, the new technical director of the Italian Football Federation, clarified on Thursday that there is no urgency in appointing a new coach for the Italian national team.
Maldini said in statements published by the Ansa agency: "Ideally, we will announce the new coach this week, but above all, we must wait for the person we really want."
He added, "There is a feeling that we need to move quickly, but there is no urgency."
He continued, "I cannot comment on Pep Guardiola's name, but I can say that we have spoken with Carlo Ancelotti."
He stressed, "It was right to start with the best in the world and check how available they are in general."
It is noted that Ancelotti renewed his contract with the Brazilian national team until the 2030 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Guardiola left Manchester City's coaching last summer after 10 years full of titles and achievements.
