Italy secured a valuable 1-1 draw against hosts France on Friday evening in the UEFA Nations League, setting a record that had not been achieved against Les Bleus for 10 years.
The Azzurri players unleashed more shots in the first half against Les Bleus (on their home turf) than any other national team has managed since the Euro 2016 semi-final.
Italy ended the first 45 minutes in Paris with eight shot attempts, a figure exceeding what any other team playing away from home against France has achieved since the Euro 2016 semi-final.
The last team to successfully register eight or more shots on target against Les Bleus at home was Germany, who fired off 11 attempts during that match which ended in a 0-2 defeat in Marseille.
Football Italia noted that many consider the draw at the Stade de France a positive result, given Italy's long absence from qualifying for the World Cup, while France reached the final in two consecutive editions, winning one of them, and also made it to the semi-finals in the most recent tournament.
Roberto Mancini's second stint as manager of the Azzurri began with a 0-2 home defeat to Belgium, but he bounced back strongly with two impressive away results: a four-goal victory over Turkey followed by the draw against France.
