Zidane: I feel disappointed because we deserved more than that... and this is Italy

Via FilGoal

France head coach Zinedine Zidane expressed his disappointment following the draw against Italy in the UEFA Nations League.

Italy forced a 1-1 draw with France in Zidane's first match in front of his home fans at the Stade de France in Paris, after having played his first two games away from home.

Zidane told Italian channel Rai Sport: "I am disappointed because we deserved more. We had chances to win the game, but we didn't take them. Sometimes that is how football goes."

He continued, "It was exciting; we wanted to bring joy to the stadium and the entire nation, but things didn't go that way."

He added, "The Italian team played their usual style. If you get a chance to score, you have to take it, otherwise these kinds of things happen. I am happy with what we showed. Now we need to rest and prepare for the next match."

He concluded, "This is Italy; they can sometimes play a bad game, but also a good one. They won in Turkey, and tonight they played their usual game. They defended well, and when they attack, they can always score."

The match between the two teams ended in a draw for the first time after six competitive and friendly encounters.

The last draw between the two sides dates back to September 8, 2007, in the qualifiers for Euro 2008.

With this draw, France reached seven points at the top of the group, while Italy rose to four points in third place.

Belgium defeated their opponents Turkey 3-0 in the same group.

Belgium sits in second place with six points, while Turkey trails at the bottom of the standings without any points.
