Press reports revealed the position of the football federations regarding the re-election of Gianni Infantino as president of the International Federation of Football, FIFA, in light of the criticisms he faced during the World Cup tournament.
The curtain falls on the 2026 World Cup edition next Sunday, where the final match will be held between the Spanish and Argentine national teams.
Infantino was subjected to extensive criticism in the World Cup, the most prominent of which was due to the red card received by the American player, Folarin Balogun, which was canceled after intervention from Donald Trump.
The English newspaper "Guardian" mentioned that despite that, Infantino enjoys official support from more than 200 countries for his re-election as president of FIFA, while only a limited number of the member federations, totaling 211, have not yet sent support letters to the Swiss.

It reported that it is expected that Infantino will be re-elected as president of FIFA for the fourth time in March next with an overwhelming majority.
It pointed out that some European countries are among the countries that have not officially provided their support to Infantino, as Germany is considered the most prominent football federation that has not granted its official support so far.
Infantino is considered the only candidate so far, as all candidates must be submitted by next November 18, and some federations feel that they are being subjected to continuous pressure from FIFA to confirm their loyalty.
