Hossam Hassan, the technical director of the Egyptian national team, has settled on the lineup with which he will start the match against Argentina in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup competitions, currently being held in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
The Egyptian national team had advanced to the round of 16 of the World Cup after defeating the Australian national team on penalties (4-2), as the match ended in a (1-1) draw in both regular and extra time.
Meanwhile, the Argentine national team's qualification to the same round came after the exciting victory achieved against the Cape Verde national team by three goals to two, in a match that went to extra time.
Looking at the expected Egyptian national team lineup, Hossam Hassan is weighing in defense between fielding Hamdy Fathy to be next to Yasser Ibrahim, or the continued participation of Rami Rabia in the back line.
Mohamed Elashin will also return to midfield again to participate in the match against Argentina, after missing the match against Australia due to suspension for accumulating yellow cards.
Hossam Hassan settled in the attacking line on continuing to use the services of the national team captain Mohamed Salah, along with Mustafa Zico, and the player Haitham Hassan will be fielded at the expense of Omar Marmoush.
It is expected that the Egyptian national team will play with a formation consisting of:
Goalkeeper: Mustafa Shobier.
Defense line: Mohamed Hany - Yasser Ibrahim - Hamdy Fathy / Rami Rabia - Karim Hafez.
Midfield line: Mohamed Elashin - Marwan Attia - Imam Ashour.
Attack line: Haitham Hassan - Mustafa Zico - Mohamed Salah.
Six national teams had secured their seats in the quarter-finals, namely: Morocco - France - Norway - England - Spain - Belgium.
The round of 16 matches are scheduled to conclude this evening, Tuesday, with a match between the Swiss national team and its Colombian counterpart.
