The Egyptian delegation continued to win medals in the Mediterranean Games "Taranto 2026," surpassing its best haul in the previous edition of the tournament held in Oran, Algeria, in 2022.
The 2026 Mediterranean Games are currently being held in the Italian city of Taranto and will continue until September 3 of this year.
Egypt had won 51 medals at the 2022 Oran Games, comprising 13 gold, 15 silver, and 23 bronze, and finished sixth in the overall standings.
So far, the Egyptian delegation has reached 53 medals in Taranto, surpassing its previous total by two medals, with the Games still ongoing, opening the door to the possibility of increasing the tally before the competitions conclude.
Egypt currently holds fourth place in the medal standings, having secured 21 gold, 15 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Egypt's participation in Taranto has featured notable performances in several sports, including karate, judo, table tennis, and swimming, as well as handball, where the national team won the gold medal after defeating Greece 31-29 in the final.
Hana Gouda reached the table tennis final, ensuring Egypt a medal, either gold or silver.
Egyptian athletes are expected to compete in table tennis, weightlifting, artistic gymnastics, rowing, and sailing.
