David Davis, the head coach of Al Ahly's first men's handball team, has etched his name in golden letters in the history of the sport at the Red Castle.
Despite the difficulty of achieving stardom in sports other than football, Davis rightfully earned the title of "legend" due to the achievements he accomplished with Al Ahly.
Davis successfully led Al Ahly to win the bronze medal at the IHF Super Globe club world championship, marking the second time in the Reds' history that they achieved this feat.
A career filled with titles
Al Ahly defeated their rivals Zamalek 30-25 in the match held this evening, Thursday, at the Administrative Capital Arena, for the third and fourth place playoff of the World Handball Championship.
Davis added a new achievement to his decorated career with Al Ahly after winning the bronze medal at the Club World Handball Championship.
The Spanish coach had previously won 11 official titles with Al Ahly's handball team throughout his tenure with the Reds, which was divided into two spells.
Davis won the handball league title three times with Al Ahly, in addition to winning the Egypt Cup twice, the Egyptian Super Cup twice, the African Champions League twice, and the African Super Cup twice.
Keys to victory in the derby
The Al Ahly handball coach expressed his great happiness at winning his first medal with Al Ahly in the World Championship, where the Reds had previously won bronze once and silver once.
Davis confirmed that the team worked hard throughout the tournament matches and deserved this major achievement, noting that the match against Zamalek was difficult given the large fan following and strong on-court competition between the two teams. However, the experience of Al Ahly's players and their confidence in their high abilities tipped the balance in their favor and paved the way for victory.
He explained that Al Ahly delivered excellent performances during the tournament, most notably defeating the German team Füchse Berlin, the European runners-up, to snatch second place in the group from them, as well as winning the intense derby against Zamalek and subsequently clinching the bronze medal.
Davis pointed out that Al Ahly's bronze medal at the Club World Cup for the second time in its history is a significant international achievement, adding to Al Ahly's record brimming with local and continental titles and trophies.
David Davis concluded his statements by saying he feels great personal happiness for contributing to achieving this wonderful accomplishment for Al Ahly Club.
