Al Ahly hand builds an eternal legacy at the Club World Cup

The Al Ahly men's first team handball squad wrote a new chapter in its history and that of the club after winning the bronze medal at the Club World Cup against Zamalek in the IHF Super Globe.

Al Ahly defeated Zamalek 30-25 in the match held this evening at the "El Nadi" Hall in the New Administrative Capital, as part of the IHF Super Globe tournament.

The current Al Ahly handball team secured its second bronze medal in its participation in the 2026 Club World Cup, having previously won its first bronze in 2024.

The current Al Ahly team's first bronze was achieved under the guidance of Dane Madsen after defeating European champions Barcelona 32-29.

Two years later, the current generation of the Red Castle's handball team returned to claim their second bronze, this time against traditional rivals Zamalek with a 30-25 victory.

Al Ahly had previously won silver at the Handball Club World Cup, then known as the Super Globe, after losing to Spanish side Real Sociedad by a single goal margin, 28-29.

The current Al Ahly generation has competed for the bronze medal in four editions from 2022 to 2026, successfully winning it on two occasions.

Historic record

Al Ahly's handball team is the most decorated African club in the Club World Cup with three medals (one silver and two bronzes).

Al Ahly is the only African team to achieve the best result for an African club in the tournament, having won silver in 2007.

Furthermore, Al Ahly is the only African team to defeat a European representative in the Handball Club World Cup on three occasions: Benfica in 2022, Barcelona in 2024, and European runners-up Füchse Berlin in 2026.
