Sunderland AFC announced the signing of defender Kevin Danso from Tottenham Hotspur before the closure of the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old Austrian player has joined Sunderland on a one-season loan deal.
According to Sunderland's official website, Danso, a brave and dominant defender, will add strength, solidity, and fighting spirit to the team's defensive options.
Danso participated in all four of Austria's matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing his total international caps to 36.
Florent Ghisolfi, Sunderland's sporting director, who previously worked with Danso at RC Lens, expressed his delight at the veteran defender's arrival at the Stadium of Light.
He said: "Kevin is a player I know very well from my time working with him at Lens. He will bring strength, character, and experience to the squad, along with extensive experience in both domestic and European competitions."
Born in Austria to Ghanaian parents, Danso came through the ranks at MK Dons before moving to German club FC Augsburg in 2014.
He made 44 appearances for Augsburg over a seven-and-a-half-year tenure, which included loan spells at Southampton and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
In the summer of 2021, he permanently transferred to RC Lens, where he played 128 matches, before joining Tottenham Hotspur initially on loan during the 2025 winter transfer window, with the move later becoming permanent.
The Austrian international made 52 appearances wearing the Tottenham shirt.
Danso, who will wear the number four shirt, said: "I am very happy to be here and look forward to starting my journey with the team."
He added, "Sunderland is a historic club with great ambitions, and I am extremely excited to be part of what we are building this season."
