Press reports revealed the North American Football Confederation "CONCACAF"'s move to discuss FIFA's proposal on investment in the World Cup tournament.
A proposal emerged from "FIFA" to sell stakes in its major tournaments to private sector investors, with the aim of expanding profits from the World Cup competition in particular.
CONCACAF meets to object to FIFA's proposal
According to what was reported by the newspaper "The Athletic", 41 countries from the "CONCACAF" confederation are scheduled to meet in an emergency group call.
The report noted that there are widespread concerns about the process proposed by "FIFA", the extent of transparency around it, and the feasibility of the International Football Association's need for external investments, despite its possession of huge financial resources.
The report questioned the possibility of the North American confederation following in the footsteps of its European counterpart "UEFA" regarding boycotting the World Cup tournament, to express their rejection of "FIFA"'s proposal.
The 55 national federations members of "UEFA" had voted during an emergency meeting to boycott the World Cup tournaments, if FIFA proceeds with implementing the proposal that was revealed on Tuesday, related to establishing a commercial company to manage the major tournaments and offering shares of them to investors.
It explained that the potential boycott would include the men's and women's World Cup tournaments, in addition to the Club World Cup, indicating that this step comes within the framework of a clear European escalation against the project led by Gianni Infantino, FIFA president.
It is scheduled that the first practical test of this position will be if FIFA's proposal obtains the approval of the member federations, next October, when the qualifiers for the Women's World Cup are held.
