The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo highlighted the negative record haunting Kylian Mbappé, captain of the French national team, against the Spanish national team, ahead of the anticipated match between the two teams.
The Spanish national team faces its French counterpart at ten o'clock in the evening next Tuesday, in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
The newspaper confirmed that Spain is the team that has inflicted the most defeats on Mbappé during his international career, after he lost to it three times in four previous matches wearing the "Les Bleus" jersey.
Despite the Real Madrid striker's success in scoring two goals in his matches against Spain, he has achieved only one victory, which came in the 2021 UEFA Nations League final, when he led France to a 2-1 win by scoring the winning goal after Karim Benzema's equalizer.
The newspaper explained that Mbappé has played 104 international matches with the French national team, achieving 71 wins against 15 losses, three of which were against the Spanish national team—the highest number against any opponent he has faced in the "Les Bleus" jersey.
The report added that Mbappé has scored 64 goals with the French national team, and the Spanish national team ranks tenth among the teams that have conceded the most goals from him, after he beat their net twice.
The newspaper also reviewed the last match between the two teams, when Spain won 5-4 in the semi-final of the UEFA Nations League, a match in which Mbappé scored a goal from a penalty kick before the French team failed to mount a comeback despite reducing the deficit in the final minutes.
"Mundo Deportivo" concluded its report by stressing that Mbappé will seek to break his jinx against the Spanish national team in the upcoming match and lead France to only the second victory in the history of his personal encounters against "La Roja".
