The International Football Federation "FIFA" is heading towards choosing Qatar to host the next edition of the Club World Cup, while studying several changes to the tournament system.

The second edition of the expanded Club World Cup will be held in 2029 and the host country has not been determined yet.

The newspaper AS revealed the continuation of consultations between FIFA and the clubs regarding the future of the tournament, which is still under development since the launch of its new project.

The report indicated that Qatar is the most prominent candidate to host the next edition, which may open the door to holding the tournament in the winter, similar to the World Cup for national teams.

In contrast, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum opened the door to the possibility of her country hosting the tournament, especially after the recent organizational successes.

The concerned parties are discussing several files, most notably the timing of the tournament in the season schedule, as this represents the biggest challenge for the clubs.

The proposals also include increasing the number of participating teams from 32 to 48 teams, with modifying the distribution system and allowing the participation of more than two clubs from the same country.

The financial aspect is one of the most prominent motives for developing the tournament, given the large returns achieved by the recent editions, as Chelsea received about 120 million euros after winning it, while the teams that reached the semi-finals received about 100 million euros.

Atletico Madrid also received 22.7 million euros despite exiting in the group stage.

Among the proposals also put forward is holding the tournament every two years instead of the current system, although this option is still under discussion and has not been decided yet.
