The Spanish newspaper "AS" highlighted star Mohamed Salah, confirming that the captain of the Egyptian national football team is on the verge of writing a new chapter in his international career, ahead of the match against Australia in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.
The Egyptian national team faces its Australian counterpart at 9:00 PM this Friday at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

The newspaper stated that Salah enjoys an exceptional status in Egypt as one of the greatest football players in the country's history, having achieved every possible title in a Liverpool shirt, but he is still looking for a major achievement with his national team.
It added that the Pharaohs' captain came close to winning the Africa Cup of Nations title on two occasions: the first in 2017 when he lost the final to Cameroon, and the second in the 2021 edition, which was decided by a penalty shootout in favor of Senegal, but he did not succeed in lifting the trophy.
"AS" pointed out that Egypt's participation in the 2018 World Cup ended with an early exit from the group stage without earning any points, which makes the team's continuation in the current edition a new opportunity to create an achievement that can be credited to Salah with the national team.
The newspaper explained that the Liverpool star also has a chance to equal the record held by the Egyptian national team coach, Hossam Hassan, the all-time top scorer for the Pharaohs according to the Egyptian Football Association's records, as the coach has 69 goals compared to Salah's 68, meaning that scoring against Australia would see him equal the historic record.
The newspaper concluded its report by noting that Salah is suffering from a minor injury sustained in the previous match against Iran, but he participated in part of the final training session, amid expectations that he will push himself to participate in the match in an effort to lead the Egyptian team toward qualification and continue making history.
