In contrast, Dumfries played his first match in a Real Madrid shirt after only two training sessions with the team, and although he did not appear fully ready, he showed glimpses of his standout qualities, foremost among them physical strength and attacking runs for which he is known.
The Dutch international said after the match: "This was not my natural position, but it was a good friendly match. I can play in more than one position, and I am used to that, even though I usually play on the right side."
He added: "This is my first match and I have only just returned to training, but Mourinho demands that I work hard and prove my abilities."
Dumfries also expressed his happiness with his first appearance in the royal club's shirt, saying: "I felt good, and I am very proud to play my first match with Real Madrid."
The player noted that the team still needs time to reach the best level of harmony, explaining: "We have only spent one week together, and we need more time, and this is the goal of the pre-season preparation. We have great quality within the squad."
For his part, Mourinho praised what the Dutch player delivered, especially since he had only two training sessions with the team, and made sure to give him numerous instructions during the match to help him adapt quickly.
