Hossam Hassan took charge of the Egyptian national team in February 2024, replacing the Portuguese coach Rui Vitória.

Hossam Hassan led the Egyptian national team in 35 matches across various tournaments and competitions, achieving 20 wins, 9 draws, and 6 losses.

Hossam Hassan participated with the Egyptian national team in both the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.

Hossam Hassan successfully led the Egyptian national team to the Round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the first time in the history of the Pharaohs' participations.

He also reached the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but the team was eliminated by Senegal.

The international break will run from September 21 to October 6. During this period, the Egyptian national team will play its first match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola, followed by a match against South Sudan, and thereafter a friendly match that is currently being arranged.
