Cadena SER radio has revealed further details regarding the future of Atlético Madrid star Julián Álvarez, highlighting the stubbornness of the Spanish capital club's management in refusing to let go of the Argentine international, specifically to Barcelona.
Atlético Madrid completely refuses to sell Álvarez to Barcelona, as confirmed by Los Rojiblancos in an official statement today (details here).
Miguel Martín Talavera, a journalist at Cadena SER, reported that Atlético Madrid had set conditions for Álvarez's departure several months ago, agreed upon with the player himself. Initially, Los Rojiblancos presented an improved salary offer for the Argentine international within the squad, making him the highest-paid player at the Spanish club and the cornerstone of their project.
Adding, citing the newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo', Álvarez responded to this offer from Atlético Madrid's management alongside his agent Fernando Hidalgo, stating they have other plans. This occurred during a meeting with the Spanish club's CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín.

It clarified that one of the conditions for Álvarez's departure was for Atlético Madrid to receive an offer worth €150 million before June 29th. Since no offer was submitted by the agreed deadline, the player was deemed unsellable.
It added that Atlético Madrid's stance was clear, especially concerning Barcelona, ignoring an official offer from Blaugrana to sign Álvarez for €90 million, plus an additional €10 million in variables payable over six years, as the Argentine international and his agent did not meet the agreed-upon conditions for departure.
Atlético Madrid believes Barcelona attempted to harm the club's interests by negotiating with Álvarez prior to the Blaugrana and Atleti matches in the Copa del Rey semi-finals and the Champions League quarter-finals.
Atlético Madrid filed an official complaint against Barcelona for attempting to sign Álvarez and negotiating illegally, as the player remains under contract with Los Rojiblancos until June 2030.
