Atlético Madrid issued an official statement recently, revealing its position on Julián Álvarez's future and the possibility of selling the player to Barcelona this summer.
Álvarez is linked with a departure from Atlético Madrid this summer, amid the Argentine international's desire to move to Barcelona.
Atlético Madrid confirmed in an official statement that Álvarez will not be sold to Barcelona, and that this is a final decision.
In the statement, Atlético Madrid declared that the club's board of directors unanimously agreed that no negotiations would take place with Barcelona regarding the possibility of releasing Álvarez.
The statement added: "The members of Atlético Madrid's board of directors are aware that the club is open to negotiations with other clubs during the transfer window, but always in an ethical and professional manner, with mutual respect between both clubs. We fully support the position previously announced by the club that Barcelona did not adhere to the terms of negotiation; therefore, there will be no negotiations with them regarding the transfer of Julián Álvarez."
The statement clarified: "Atlético Madrid trusts that our player Julián Álvarez will understand the decision and will focus from now on on doing his utmost to help the club achieve its goals, as he has done over the past two seasons, during which he defended the club's colors."
Álvarez has not been training with Atlético Madrid for the second consecutive day, citing illness, while it has been reported that the player is suffering from poor mental health after being subjected to boos from Atlético fans during last Sunday's La Liga match against Villarreal.
