Media reports in recent hours indicated that Tottenham Hotspur has reached an agreement with Manchester City to secure the services of Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush, aiming to bolster their attacking lineup for the new season.
Omar Marmoush had recently returned after participating with the Egyptian national team in the World Cup, playing two preparatory matches. In one, he came on as a substitute against K-League All-Stars in the 62nd minute; the match ended in a 3-1 victory for Manchester City. He also led his team to a 3-1 win over Atlético Madrid by scoring a brace in the 57th and 59th minutes before leaving the field in the 78th minute.
Omar Marmoush also featured in what might be his final match wearing the Manchester City jersey, during their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.
Omar Marmoush's future with Manchester City raised several questions during the summer transfer window, as he remained a backup option for coach Pep Guardiola, logging only 1,393 minutes last season, scoring 8 goals, and providing 3 assists.

Omar Marmoush undertook four professional stints with Wolfsburg, St. Pauli, Stuttgart, and Eintracht Frankfurt before joining the English Premier League and donning the Manchester City jersey since January 2025.
His time at Frankfurt represented the peak of Marmoush's professional career, where he scored 37 goals and provided 20 assists across 67 matches. Meanwhile, he netted 16 goals and delivered 6 assists in 62 games for Manchester City, and recorded 21 goals with 3 assists over 90 appearances for Wolfsburg's first team, second team, and U19 squad. Additionally, he scored 7 goals with 3 assists for St. Pauli, and contributed 3 goals alongside 5 assists during his period with Stuttgart.
Moving to Tottenham represents an excellent step for Omar Marmoush, with the English giant expected to become his sixth club in a professional career that began in 2017. Several key factors underpin the anticipated success of the Egyptian star wearing the jersey of one of the Premier League's historic elite clubs.
1- The Tottenham Project
Under its ownership, Tottenham aspires to restore the Spurs' historic standing in the English league by injecting additional financial investments to support the squad this summer.
Tottenham narrowly avoided relegation in the final moments of last season after finishing in 17th place under Roberto De Zerbi, who took charge on March 31 in an attempt to save the team from dropping into the Championship. He assumed responsibility just seven games after Igor Tudor was appointed; Tudor departed following his failure to secure any victories and was dismissed on March 29 after only 44 days.
2- The Transfer Market
Tottenham spent £267 million acquiring high-caliber signings such as Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, West Ham's Matheus Fernandes, and Brighton defender Paul van Hecke. Additionally, they secured Andrew Robertson from Liverpool, Bournemouth defender Marcus Senesi, and Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka on free transfers.
These deals represent a significant boost for Tottenham and manager Roberto De Zerbi, who aims to correct the team's trajectory following several disappointing and modest seasons. Furthermore, the Spurs are preparing to officially announce the signing of Savinho, the Manchester City winger.
3- Talent Scout
Roberto De Zerbi is considered one of the world's best coaches capable of discovering talent, developing players, and pushing them to perform at their highest level. He is known for nurturing numerous names, some of whom later moved in lucrative deals to major European clubs.
De Zerbi managed Sassuolo from 2018 to 2021, where Giacomo Raspadori shone before joining the Italian national team and moving to Napoli. Similarly, Manuel Locatelli developed into a top-tier midfielder under him, representing the Azzurri and becoming a key figure in their UEFA Euro 2020 victory (held in 2021), before transferring to Juventus in the summer of 2021.
Other players who flourished under De Zerbi included Domenico Berardi, Davide Frattesi, and Gianluca Scamacca before he left the club in 2021.
De Zerbi also contributed significantly to the development of Moisés Caicedo during his two-year tenure at Brighton starting in 2022. Caicedo subsequently moved to Chelsea in a record-breaking £115 million deal. Alongside him, Alexis Mac Allister emerged as one of the Premier League's finest midfielders, helping Argentina win the 2022 World Cup before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2023. Other names who shines under the Italian manager include Evan Ferguson, Julio Enciso, and Kaoru Mitoma during his previous Premier League experience.
Furthermore, his period with Olympique Marseille from 2024 to 2024 saw several players thrive, most notably Mason Greenwood, whom he helped rediscover after Greenwood's departure from Manchester United. Greenwood scored 48 goals and provided 17 assists in 81 matches before joining Turkish side Fenerbahçe this summer.
4- Roberto De Zerbi's Playing Style
Roberto De Zerbi's playing style is expected to help revive Omar Marmoush's European career. Marmoush possesses remarkable tactical flexibility, offensive versatility, and decentralization in the attacking line.
Several British media reports have confirmed that Marmoush's abilities—specifically exploiting spaces, dragging defenders out of position, and performing multiple attacking roles—are highly compatible with Roberto De Zerbi's methodology.
De Zerbi may resort to a quick-transition style in certain matches, particularly against the "Big Four," creating empty spaces for Marmoush to shine and threaten the opponent's goal. Although his primary approach relies on possession, building play from the back, and intensifying passing sequences.
5- Continuation of Mido's Legacy
Ahmed Hossam Mido built a brilliant career at Tottenham, establishing a popular and fan base since his arrival in 2005. Tottenham supporters still remember the former Egyptian striker, whose name remains etched in their memories thanks to his goals and decisive assists.
Mido scored 19 goals and provided 6 assists for Tottenham across 61 matches. He initially joined on an 18-month loan and finished as the team's second-top scorer in the 2005-2006 season under Martin Jol, netting 11 goals in 27 games.
Tottenham served as Mido's gateway to Italian giants AS Roma, before he returned to the Spurs in the summer of 2006 and subsequently linked up with Manchester City.
Mido's impressive legacy and popularity at Tottenham support Omar Marmoush's potential transfer to the Spurs. Marmoush will not need much time to adapt to his new club, having joined with the conviction and admiration of coach Roberto De Zerbi regarding his capabilities. De Zerbi is expected to grant the current Manchester City striker the opportunity to secure a regular starting spot, especially since Marmoush is no stranger to the atmosphere of the English Premier League.
