The Dutch Football Association announced the appointment of Xavi Hernandez as the new coach of the national team, succeeding Ronald Koeman, who was dismissed after exiting the round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup.
The Dutch Association had entered into talks in recent days with Xavi Hernandez, which proved successful, and Barcelona was the last team he took charge of before departing at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Xavi Hernandez said after confirming his appointment as coach of the Netherlands national team in statements reported by the global network "Tribuna": "It is a great honor to become the coach of the Netherlands national team".

He added: "As someone who grew up and received his training in the Barcelona academy and was influenced by figures like Cruyff and Rinus Michels, I feel a special bond connecting me to Dutch football; one could say that in some way, I am a son of Dutch football".
Xavi Hernandez became the first foreign coach to take charge of the Dutch national team since 1978, and the former Barcelona midfielder had won league and Super Cup titles with the Blaugrana and had not coached any team since his departure from it in the summer of 2024.
