Zico participated in the World Cup and scored two goals against New Zealand in the group stage and Argentina in the round of 16.

"Praise be to God for everything we have reached.
Perhaps the journey stopped here, but what happened will not be forgotten.
First, I thank His Excellency President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for his support and interest in us, and I thank the great Egyptian people for standing with us and our fans who filled the stadium from the first day to the last moment.
Your support and trust were the greatest motivation for us, and we fought for you to make you happy.
And I am very proud that I was part of the delegation, and proud of every man who worked hard, fought and sacrificed, whether a player, technical staff, medical staff, administrative, social media or any person who was with us. Everyone had a role, and everyone did what was required of them with all sincerity.
And praise be to God that God honored us and we reached a place that makes every Egyptian happy, and we wanted to continue the journey.
And a promise from us, this is not the end, this is the beginning of a bigger dream. We will hear more, and we will learn from every experience, and God willing, we will build on what we stopped at, and return to make Egypt happy with greater achievements.

Zico played 7 international matches wearing the Egyptian national team jersey since joining under the leadership of Hossam Hassan.
Zico participated against Russia and Brazil in friendlies before the tournament and scored a goal in the net of both.
And in the World Cup, he scored two goals and assisted one during Egypt's journey until the round of 16.
