Thomas Tuchel, coach of the England national team, stressed that the match against Mexico will be emotionally charged and supportive of the hosts, without turning into hostile atmospheres, confirming his players' readiness to deal with all challenges.
The England national team is preparing to face Mexico on Monday morning in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, with the match taking place at Mexico City Stadium.
Tuchel said at the press conference: "The atmosphere will be emotional and full of support for the hosts, I do not expect any hostility, so far everyone has been very respectful, a stadium like this is capable of creating a distinctive atmosphere for the home team".
He continued, "I want to live up to my personal expectations, I believe we are ready, the tournament is difficult by nature, and the best way to deal with it is to stay calm".
He added, "We have no problems today, I think FIFA is aware of the situation, and there are security measures around the hotel, the match is scheduled for six in the evening, and if we do not get enough sleep at night, we have time in the morning".
He revealed, "I do not want to talk about non-existent problems, what I have experienced so far has been respectful, emotional, and supportive, we respect everyone and expect the same in return, talking about potential problems has no meaning for me".
Regarding the factor of the stadium's elevation above sea level, he said: "I felt a slight headache during the day and did not sleep perfectly, but there is nothing that cannot be dealt with or adapted to".
He continued, "The players felt it in the first minutes of training, but the more time passes, the easier it becomes to deal with, it is impossible to adapt physically completely, we are here only one day before to experience the conditions".
He concluded, "It is no coincidence that the Mexican national team is very strong on its home ground, with an offensive and pressing style, I think the first 15 to 20 minutes will be the hardest for us, and if we overcome them we will be in a good position".
The England national team qualified for the round of 16 after overcoming the Democratic Republic of the Congo with two goals to one in the round of 32.
