The Senegalese Federation announced the dismissal of Pape Thiaw from coaching the Senegal national team after exiting the World Cup in the round of 32.
The Lions of Teranga exited the World Cup after losing 3-2 to Belgium despite leading 2-0 until the 86th minute.
The Senegalese Federation announced in its statement that it will hold a meeting with the media on Monday, July 13, "to explain the reasons for this decision, provide the latest updates on the status of the national team, and discuss future prospects".

Thiaw took over coaching Senegal succeeding his compatriot Aliou Cissé since October 2024.
During 25 matches, Senegal under his leadership won 15 matches, drew 4, and lost 6 in all competitions.
Senegal crowned with Thiaw the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, but it was withdrawn from it by a decision of the African Union due to the coach's decision to withdraw before achieving victory over Morocco.
Senegal national team player Pape Gueye had previously announced that he would not play for the national team except after Thiaw's departure following the World Cup exit. (See details)
Thiaw became the 16th coach to be dismissed or submit his resignation after the end of his journey in the 2026 World Cup.

So far, 16 coaches have been dismissed from coaching their national teams after the 2018 World Cup, and the number is expected to increase, which is a record according to reports; after the 2022 World Cup, 11 technical changes were made.
In 2018, 8 technical changes were made, the same in 2014, in 2010 7 technical changes were made, and after 2006, 9 changes occurred in the names of the coaches.
