Via FilGoal

In every edition of the World Cup, new names emerge in football, some of which are known only to a few people, while others are known but the World Cup witnesses the explosion of their talent with their national team for the first time.

The World Cup stories are not limited to the big stars only, but new names emerge that steal the spotlight, change the future of football, and become the nucleus of a new generation of players who carry the banner of football at the end of another generation's career.

Some of those talents enter the tournament without fanfare and then emerge as the talk of the world, while others enter expecting a good showing but deliver even better than expected.

In this series, FilGoal.com will talk to you about young players expected to shine at the 2026 World Cup. During the series, we will not discuss players who have already become first-team stars, such as Lamine Yamal for example, because he has already begun carving his name among the stars and not just young talents. Instead, we will recount the stories of players who possess talent but it has not fully exploded yet.

Our second talent comes from the African continent this time, a player among the biggest candidates to join the list of stars after the tournament ends.

Diomande is one of the players whose career has proven that football transforms very quickly. The 19-year-old's career shifted from merely a player in an academy to one of the most prominent talents sought after in the transfer market, and within two years he is expected to be transferred for large sums of money.

Although Diomande's talent has already become apparent to many people and he has become sought after by many major clubs, he has not been widely followed by viewers due to not participating in any European continental competition during the past season.

And FilGoal.com presents to you the story of Diomande and how he transformed within two years from playing in an American academy to one of the world's top talents. Diomande was not one of the players born in Europe, but was naturally born in Côte d'Ivoire, specifically the capital Abidjan. At a young age, Diomande's parents migrated from Côte d'Ivoire, his original country, to America in search of a better life like many Africans.

And as is customary with sports in America, Diomande joined the team of Yule Hornets High School.

In 2022, he joined the DME Academy in America, and with it he began to showcase his skill more prominently.

He was able to win the UPSL league title with the team, an amateur tournament in America, and Diomande also received the award for best player in the tournament.

After the tournament, Diomande headed to Europe to try to take a bigger step in his career and begin playing at the professional level. In October 2023, Diomande went for a trial at Scottish Rangers, but he was unable to sign a contract and returned again to his academy, where he remained for another year.

Diomande continued searching for another way to move to Europe, which he eventually succeeded in, specifically through the door of Leganés in January 2024.

Leganés were among the relegated teams during the past season, but he was able to showcase his abilities to catch the attention of Leipzig, who signed him at the beginning of the past season.

Leipzig signed Diomande for approximately 20 million euros, the release clause in his contract with Leganés, but after just one season the player is close to becoming the most expensive player in the club's history.

During his first season, Diomande participated in 36 matches and succeeded in scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists, making him one of the most successful young players in Europe during the season.

The matter was not limited to goals and assists only, but Diomande's dribbling numbers were also the biggest decisive factor.

During the current season, Diomande was the third most successful dribbler with 132 successful dribbles, behind only Lamine Yamal and Jeremy Doku.

After his wonderful season with Leipzig, Diomande became one of the most sought-after young players in the winger position, and several clubs have shown interest in signing him, including Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester City according to global reports.

According to ESPN, Leipzig wants 130 million euros to agree to sell Diomande, given the high demand for the player. Diomande's talent was evident in the praise from his teammates, as his teammate Orban described defending against him in training as impossible.

On the other hand, Diomande does not forget Leipzig's favor to him, highlighting that signing him for 20 million euros was indeed a large amount for a player who had only played 10 matches in his professional career. Diomande said: "I will never forget this opportunity.

It's not just about playing football; the club has helped me a lot off the pitch as well."

He added: "The media only sees what I present on the pitch, but the club stood by me a lot regarding my family and my mother. The least I can do for them is to give everything I have on the pitch, and that's what I try to do every day."

The Ivorian player continued: "No one knew me before, and paying 20 million euros was an extremely large amount. It was a big risk for them and I am grateful for that." He concluded: "As I said today, we are on the right path but the matter is not over yet. We must continue and keep working hard."

Diomande's wonderful start in football did not differ with the national team, as he participated for the first time with Côte d'Ivoire in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles, and during the match he scored his first international goal.

From the first match, Diomande succeeded in securing a starting spot, to be present at the Africa Cup of Nations as one of the key elements of the team.

At the Africa Cup of Nations, Diomande succeeded in scoring a single goal, which was in the round of 16 against Burkina Faso, before Côte d'Ivoire's team exited from Egypt in the quarterfinals.

At the World Cup, Diomande will have another opportunity to showcase his talent, and the World Cup will be a final stop for the Ivorian star to prove that his next step will come deservedly, whatever it may be, as it will in any case be toward a big club and for an amount exceeding 100 million euros according to what his team wants.

Thus, Diomande will transform from an unknown player at the beginning of 2024 to one of the most expensive young player deals in history, and the most expensive expected in the upcoming summer.

The most important question remains: Will Diomande succeed in being among the world's first-team stars, after only a season and a half at the professional level? And will the player who was in an academy playing football at a non-professional level just two years ago succeed in dealing with the spotlight and pressure that will be placed on him during and after the World Cup?
