Riyad Mahrez, captain of the Algerian national team, clarified that the 2026 World Cup will be the last in his World Cup career with the Greens.
Mahrez is preparing to lead the Algerian national team against Switzerland in the Round of 32 of the World Cup at 6:00 AM on Friday.
The Algerian Al-Hayat channel quoted Mahrez's statements, in which he said: "Perhaps it is time for me to pass the torch and stop. This will be the last World Cup I play in, and that is certain."
He added, "Our goal was to pass the group stage in the World Cup, and we have achieved it."
He added, "The Algerian national team has never won a match in the knockout stages of the World Cup, and we are seeking to achieve that."
He concluded, "Now we have to make it happen, for us, for our families, and for our country; this is what is most important."
Mahrez participated as a substitute in the match against Argentina in the opening round, before starting against Jordan and Austria.
The Al-Ahli Jeddah star scored two goals against Austria to lead his team to a 3-3 draw and qualification for the Round of 32.
