Belgium defeated America by four goals to one in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Courtois said in statements to journalists after the match: "There was a lack of respect for us in America, they said we were no longer the team we used to be and thought they would win easily, we proved them wrong, it's hard to compare that match to matches like Egypt and Iran."
He continued, "I read about the Balogun case before the match and we laughed about it, I felt more confident in our victory over America than our victory over Senegal, because Senegal is a better team than America."
