The Spanish national team qualified for the quarter-finals in the 2026 World Cup after achieving an exciting victory over Portugal with a goal without reply in the round of 16.
Bruno Fernandes said via the FIFA website: "Clearly we feel sad, we came here with one goal which is to win the title, and unfortunately we were not in our best condition."
And he continued: "I think we played better in the first half today, but in the second half we made the same mistake by defending very late in the field, which caused them to be given the ball."
And he revealed: "When that happens, you will concede a goal sooner or later, and we congratulate Spain, as they have distinguished players."
And Fernandes concluded his statements: "I think if we played with the same style as the first half, we could have achieved a better result."
The Portuguese national team bid farewell to the tournament from the round of 16, at a time when everyone is awaiting Ronaldo's final decision regarding his international future after a rich career with the national team.
The Spanish national team won in the dying minutes against Portugal with a goal from substitute Mikel Merino, in the match that was held at Dallas Stadium.
Thus, the Spanish national team qualifies to face the winner of the America and Belgium match.
And so far, 5 teams have qualified for the quarter-finals: Morocco, France, Norway, England, and Spain.
