Mendy was included in the French national team squad that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia, for the second time in his country's history.
L'Equipe newspaper revealed that Benjamin Mendy put the cup up for auction at an American auction house specializing in sports memorabilia.
Mendy sold the cup for approximately 54,000 euros.
L'Equipe noted that the cup has a crack in its base and slight signs of wear.
The buyer received a certificate of authenticity signed by the player.
Mendy played 40 minutes against Denmark at the end of the group stage in the tournament, while he remained on the bench for the rest of France's campaign in the competition.
Mendy has been playing for the Polish club Pogon Szczecin since September 2025.
Mendy has played 10 international matches for the French national team.
Mendy, who plays as a left-back, has played during his career for clubs including Marseille, Monaco, and Manchester City.
Mendy was acquitted of the rape charges brought against him in July 2023.
Despite his later acquittal, it seems the player has not yet recovered financially from the crisis that affected his career.
