South Africa's national team succeeded in qualifying to the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup tournament, after defeating South Korea at dawn today Thursday, with a result of (1-0), in the third round of the first group's competitions.
The match's only goal came in the 63rd minute by Thapelo Maseko with a shot from inside the penalty area, after receiving a cross pass from the left side.
Most expectations indicated South Korea's superiority, but the "Bafana Bafana" squad succeeded in qualifying to the knockout stages in the World Cup for the first time in its history.
South Africa ended the first group in second place with 4 points behind Mexico, the leaders with 9 points.
Meanwhile, South Korea awaits its position after the end of the group stage, dreaming of qualifying among the best thirds, as it occupies third place with 3 points and a goal difference of -1.
It is noted that South Africa opened the World Cup with a loss to Mexico (2-0), then drew with the Czech Republic (1-1), before snatching qualification from the jaws of South Korea.
With this qualification, South Africa's national team sets a date with Canada's national team which finished second in the first group, in the round of 32 of the World Cup.
