La Liga Spanish League Association is heading towards postponing three matches from the first round of the new season, as part of the arrangements for the launch of the competition.

According to the Spanish radio station Cope, the match between Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid against Sociedad, and Atletico Madrid against Malaga will be postponed due to them having a large number of players in the ongoing World Cup semi-finals.

The number may rise to four matches, according to La Liga association estimates.

The report explained that some clubs that have only one international player preferred not to postpone their matches, so as not to have to play three matches in one week, which may increase the pressure on their players.

He added that the decision to postpone the matches came after the unanimous approval of all first division clubs during a meeting of the Spanish League Association.

The Spanish League will kick off next August 16 and end on May 30.

Barcelona achieved the Spanish League title under the leadership of Hans Flick for the second consecutive time.

The Spanish national team is competing in the World Cup semi-finals against France next Tuesday, which is the first time La Roja has participated in this round since 2010 when they won the championship.
