Jassim Al-Buainain, President of the Qatar Football Association, officially announced his resignation from his position, following the "Marrons'" farewell to the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The Qatari national team had bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup finals from the group stage, during which it was in the second group alongside Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Switzerland.

Jassim Al-Buainain published a statement via his official account on the "X" platform: "The trace of the steps remains a witness to the achievements accomplished, and the work established that bore tangible success".
He added: "It was a stage full of challenges, but with determination and sincerity, ambitions turned into reality, and goals were achieved that some thought were out of reach".
Jassim continued in his statement: "I announce my resignation after 3 years in which I served by working as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Football Association".
He went on: "I leave today, having had the honor of working with some of the loyal colleagues who carried the trust with sincerity, so success was a natural outcome of their efforts and dedication. They have my sincere thanks and appreciation".
He continued: "To everyone who believed that true building is made through honest work away from noise and narrow interests, all thanks, for the achievements will remain the best witness that the public interest was and will remain above all consideration, and that sincere intentions are capable of overcoming all obstacles".
He concluded: "I leave the position today, and loyalty to the covenant remains, pride in all that has been achieved, and prayers that the Qatari football journey continues towards more success, progress, and prosperity".
The Qatari national team had achieved a positive draw with Switzerland by a score of (1-1), then fell to Canada by a score of (6-0), and finally lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina (3-1).
