Scottish veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon announced his retirement from football today, Thursday, ending a career that lasted more than two decades on the pitches.

Gordon's announcement (43 years old) came through a video clip he posted on his official accounts on social media platforms, in which he said: "I never wanted this journey to end, but every beginning has an end. I have lived my dreams, and I am extremely grateful for everything I have been through".

Gordon is considered the oldest player in the 2026 World Cup, after being included in Scotland's squad for the tournament held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

However, the veteran goalkeeper did not participate in any match, and was content with the role of substitute in the presence of the young Angus Gunn.

Gordon played 84 international matches wearing the Scotland national team jersey, while he played 682 matches at the club level, during which he defended the colors of Heart of Midlothian, Cowdenbeath, and Celtic, in addition to the English Sunderland.
