The Italian Super Cup returns to its old format and will be held before the end of 2026

Italian Serie A League President Italo Maria Simonelli announced that the Italian Super Cup final will return to its traditional format and be played before the Christmas holidays.

Accordingly, the Super Cup will be contested between Inter, the Serie A champions, and Lazio, the Coppa Italia runners-up.

The venue and exact date have not yet been announced.

Simonelli said in a radio interview: “The match will be held before the Christmas holidays, and there are several proposals regarding the venue.”

He concluded his remarks by stating, “We will reveal the details of the date and venue at the next Italian Serie A League meeting.”

The format of the Italian Super Cup had changed over the past three seasons, with a mini-tournament held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, featuring four teams: the champions and runners-up of both the league and the cup.

However, starting from the current season, the tournament will return to its previous format, involving only two teams, as Inter, the league and Coppa Italia champions, will face Lazio, the Coppa Italia runners-up.

According to Sport Mediaset, the most likely dates for the match are Tuesday, December 22, 2026, or Wednesday, December 23.

The final round of the Serie A before the winter break will take place on December 19 and 20, with the competition resuming on January 2, 2027.
