The referees committee of the International Football Association "FIFA" selected the Egyptian referee Mahmoud Ashour to be part of the refereeing crew for the Spain and Belgium match in the World Cup.

The Spanish and Belgian national teams meet at ten o'clock on Friday evening, in the quarter-final round of the 2026 World Cup, at Los Angeles Stadium in the city of Inglewood.

Mahmoud Ashour is present as an assistant for video technology in the match.

The match's refereeing crew consists of: Englishman Michael Oliver as the field referee, assisted by Stuart Burt as first assistant and Marengo James as second assistant, and Ramon Abati as fourth referee.

Also present in video technology is the Brazilian Rafael Alves as reserve assistant referee, the Englishman Gillett Garder as video technology referee, the Croatian Ivan Bebek as assistant video technology referee, Dickerson Joe as assistant video technology referee, the Egyptian Mahmoud Ashour as reserve video referee, and Antonio Garcia as reserve video referee.

This is Ashour's eighth appearance in managing video technology.

There are 4 Egyptian referees in the World Cup, namely Amin Omar, Ahmed Hossam Taha, and Mahmoud Abu Al-Rijal.

The Egyptian national team bid farewell to the World Cup tournament from the round of 16, after losing to Argentina with a score of 3-2.
