Tarek Hassan, an athlete from the Egyptian national team, won the gold medal in the 100-meter monohull race at the "Taranto 2026" Mediterranean Games, adding a new gold medal to Egypt's tally in the championship.
Tarek Hassan delivered a strong performance during the race, securing first place and claiming the gold medal, thereby increasing Egypt's medal count at the Mediterranean Games.
Tarek Hassan's gold medal victory raised the Egyptian delegation's total medal count to 17 so far in the Mediterranean Games, comprising 6 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze medals.

The competitions of the 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games are currently being held in the Italian city of Taranto and will continue until September 3, with the participation of 3,803 athletes from 26 countries.
The Egyptian delegation is competing in 23 sports at the Mediterranean Games: archery, athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, canoe and kayak, equestrian, fencing, aquatic games and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, padel, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, finswimming, and amateur sliding.
Egypt ranks sixth among the countries with the most medals in the history of the Mediterranean Games, with a total of 620 diverse medals: 156 gold, 209 silver, and 255 bronze.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by Captain Gawhar Nabil, and the Egyptian Olympic Committee, chaired by Engineer Yasser Edris, continue to closely monitor Egyptian champions participating in the "Taranto 2026" Mediterranean Games, providing them with support and assistance, while following their results and encouraging them to achieve further accomplishments and elevate Egypt's name in international arenas.
