A Spanish report revealed a surprising twist regarding the transfer of Ivorian player Yan Diomande, the German side Leipzig’s player, to Real Madrid, after it indicated that a call from Brazilian star Vinicius Junior was one of the factors that contributed to the young player entering a complex network of disputes between his representation agencies.
According to an extensive report by Marca newspaper, Diomande received a call from Vinicius Junior some time ago to persuade him to join the “Roc Nation” agency for business representation, before being received by its major owners in the United States, ultimately leading him to commit to the company that has become his current agency.
However, Roc Nation’s entry into representing Diomande opened the door to a complex legal crisis, after the former agency “Maxidel Management” filed a lawsuit against the current agency in a dispute concerning the player’s representation rights and the commission from his transfer from Leipzig.
The dispute reached FIFA, which has so far delayed the completion of Diomande’s transfer to Real Madrid, especially since Maxidel asserts that it holds the player’s rights until his departure from the German club.
This crisis places Real Madrid in difficult choices, as the club may have to negotiate separately with Maxidel, wait for an agreement between the two agencies, or monitor FIFA’s position and allow the player to be registered temporarily until the legal dispute is resolved.
The deal’s complications are increasing due to other disputes over Diomande’s rights, as his former agent Dez Bamba is in conflict with “Blue Crow,” which played a pivotal role in the player’s career and his move to Leganés.
“Rainbow” is also demanding rights to exploit the player’s image and is engaged in legal disputes with both Maxidel and Roc Nation, making Diomande’s contractual and commercial rights surrounded by a series of mutual lawsuits.
The roots of the crisis go back to the player’s early years, after he emerged in Côte d’Ivoire, then moved to the Blue Crow academy in Dubai, and from there to the DME academy in the United States, where several major European clubs began monitoring him.
During that period, various parties tried to influence the player’s future, before Blue Crow intervened and pushed for his transfer to Leganés, which it owned, after which he began his rise in Spanish football.
After appearing with Leganés’ first team in La Liga against Real Madrid, Diomande’s talent exploded and attracted the interest of 41 clubs, before he moved to Leipzig for 20 million euros, with Blue Crow retaining a percentage of any future transfer of the player.
In Germany, Diomande became one of the most prominent emerging talents and won the award for best young player in the Bundesliga, after which disputes over who holds the rights to represent him escalated.
While Max Gradl, owner of Maxidel, announced that the player had renewed his association with his agency, Dez Bamba denied this, before Roc Nation entered the scene and succeeded in obtaining the player’s signature.
Now, Real Madrid finds itself at the heart of this legal battle, coinciding with ongoing negotiations with Leipzig over the financial value of the deal, with the German club demanding more than 100 million euros to complete it.
Real Madrid needs to resolve all files related to Diomande’s rights, especially since the club usually obtains a large percentage of its players’ image rights, making any ongoing dispute over image or representation rights of paramount importance to the club’s management.
Despite these complications, Marca indicates that disputes between agencies may be more complex than the issue of registering the player itself, as FIFA does not have the authority to adjudicate disputes related to agents’ commissions, and it is expected that Diomande’s registration with Real Madrid will not be obstructed once the Spanish club and Leipzig reach a final agreement on the deal.
At present, Diomande continues to stay away from Leipzig’s activities during the new season’s preparation period, awaiting the resolution of his future, while Real Madrid attempts to finalize a deal that has unexpectedly turned from negotiations with a German club into a tangled legal struggle between several agencies, one of whose chapters was a surprise call from Vinicius Junior to the Ivorian talent.
