The police in South Africa opened an investigation after finding the body of Jayden Adams, the Sundowns star, inside a house in Cape Town today, Saturday.
Jayden Adams participated with South Africa in the 2026 World Cup finals, before exiting in the round of 32 at the hands of Canada.
And the IOL news site mentioned that Adams died by suicide, although the police did not officially confirm the cause of death and were content with announcing the opening of an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Police spokesperson Van Wyk confirmed that police officers received a report and headed to the site around eleven o'clock in the morning. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.
Adams's death came after a difficult period experienced by his family, as his grandmother Mariana Adams died at the age of 72 inside a hospital in Stellenbosch on June 17 last, just one day before South Africa's match against the Czech Republic in the World Cup.
Despite receiving the news of his grandmother's death before the match, Adams started in the match that ended in a 1-1 draw, then came on as a substitute in the historic victory over South Korea.
His grandmother was buried on June 27 last, while Adams was still with his national team in the United States of America.
Jayden Adams was born in Cape Town in May 2001, and progressed through the Stellenbosch club academy, before becoming the first player to graduate from the academy to sign a professional contract with the club in August 2020.
He played 139 matches with Stellenbosch, scoring 9 goals and providing 10 assists, while his distinguished performances led to his joining the South Africa national team under coach Hugo Broos, and he was part of the team that won the bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
In January 2025, he transferred to Mamelodi Sundowns on a contract extending for about three and a half years.
