Spanish coach takes over as interim head coach of South Korea national team

Via FilGoal

The South Korean Football Association announced on Tuesday the appointment of Spanish manager Robert Moreno to lead the national team on an interim basis.

This comes following the resignation of Hong Myung-bo after the team's exit from the 2026 World Cup in the summer.

Moreno will lead the Korean team in six matches during the upcoming international breaks in September and November.

His tenure could be extended to continue until the 2027 Asian Cup finals, scheduled to be held next January.

The 48-year-old Moreno previously served as interim manager of the Spanish national team in 2019, when Luis Enrique stepped away from coaching La Roja due to family reasons related to his daughter's illness and passing.

He subsequently took charge of French club Monaco and Spanish club Granada.

His most recent managerial position was with Russian club Sochi, which he left in August of last year.

Moreno will officially begin his tenure with a match against Ecuador on September 24.
