The Spanish national team continued to make history after winning the 2026 World Cup title for the second time in its history, following its victory over Argentina with a goal without reply after extra time, in the final match held at "MetLife" Stadium, as Ferran Torres led "La Roja" to the podium with his decisive goal in the 106th minute.
Spanish newspaper Marca reported that the Spanish national team achieved an unprecedented defensive feat, becoming the first champion in World Cup history to concede only one goal throughout its campaign in the tournament, and that goal came against Belgium in the quarter-finals, while it kept a clean sheet in the rest of the matches.
Coach Luis de la Fuente's team concluded the tournament with an impressive record, achieving seven wins and one draw in eight matches, starting with a draw against Cape Verde, before successively defeating Saudi Arabia 4-0, Uruguay 1-0, Austria 3-0, Portugal 1-0, Belgium 2-1, France 2-0, and then Argentina 1-0 in the final.
Goalkeeper Unai Simón also broke the record for the longest streak of minutes without conceding goals in the World Cup, reaching 650 minutes, benefiting from extending his record to the previous edition in Qatar 2022.
The backline also played a prominent role in Spain's crowning as world champions, thanks to the outstanding performance of the duo Pau Cubarsí and Aymeric Laporte in the heart of the defense, alongside full-backs Marc Cucurella and Pedro Porro, forming one of the main reasons for "La Roja"'s success in reclaiming the World Cup after 16 years since its first title.
