Former England national team star Roy Keane expressed his surprise at the decision to cancel Egypt's goal against Argentina, confirming that the Argentine national team got some luck during the controversial moment, but at the same time stressed the "Tango"'s right to appreciation after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
The British newspaper "The Sun" reported Keane's statements, in which he said: "It seems that the big teams are the ones that benefit from such decisions, but that should not diminish the importance of what Argentina achieved here, as I see that Argentina deserves all the appreciation".
The former Manchester United star added: "Decisions may work in your favor or against you, and it seems that the big teams are the ones that have the advantage in such decisions".
Video technology had canceled a goal scored by Mustafa Zico for the Egyptian national team in the 58th minute, after the referee was called to review the play, deciding to cancel the goal due to a foul by Marwan Attia at the start of the attack.
The Egyptian national team was eliminated from the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup after a dramatic 3-2 loss to Argentina in the match held at Atlanta Stadium, after the "Pharaohs" had taken a two-goal lead, before the "Tango" team managed to come back, turn the score around, and secure qualification to the quarter-finals.
