Reports: Infantino turns to Trump to continue as FIFA president

Via Btolat

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been in a difficult situation over the past few days, amid the many criticisms he is facing and the pressures to resign from his current position.

Criticisms poured on Infantino in recent days, after his proposal to sell shares of FIFA to external investors, who would then supervise the tournaments affiliated with FIFA, such as the World Cup.

This proposal met with great objection from most international and continental federations as well, leading Infantino to ultimately retract this decision.

There is a call in the last hours to withdraw confidence from Infantino, or not to allow the Swiss to run in the FIFA elections next year.

Reliable journalist "Ben Jacobs" mentioned that Infantino sought support from Donald Trump, as the Swiss will meet with prominent figures in the administration of the President of the United States of America, in his quest to obtain support for his continuation as FIFA president.

He added that Infantino has already begun seeking public support from the federations, amid the many pressures on him to resign from his position.

He explained that Aleksander Ceferin, president of the European Football Association, is seeking to withdraw UEFA's support for Infantino definitively, while the English Football Association will submit a letter to the current FIFA president stating the withdrawal of support from the Swiss, which was submitted before the start of the World Cup last June.

The Welsh Football Association had officially announced earlier today that it does not support Infantino, increasing the pressures on the latter.

Several members of the CONCACAF federation are also planning to withdraw their support for Infantino, led by Victor Montagliani, president of this federation, and one of the most prominent candidates to compete with the Swiss for the FIFA presidency seat in next year's elections.

UEFA currently holds 55 votes and needs 106 votes out of 211 member federations in FIFA to withdraw confidence from Infantino, as the European Football Association cannot oust the Swiss without obtaining support from the other continental federations.

In return, Infantino enjoys strong support from the African Football Confederation "CAF", while countries like Qatar and Sri Lanka have expressed their support for the Swiss, despite the Asian Football Confederation's opposition to his plans.

The source concluded by saying that some members in FIFA want to oust Infantino and demand that he resign, while the Swiss is conducting a full study on whether he has support to continue in his position.
