Barcelona club wants to avoid any clash with Athletic Bilbao, especially with the latter's defender Aymeric Laporte linked to joining the Blaugrana ranks during the current summer transfer window.
Aymeric Laporte has proven himself as one of the important elements with the Spanish national team during the 2026 World Cup competitions, which ended with La Roja winning the title, allowing the 32-year-old defender to regain his self-confidence.
Barcelona and Laporte developments
Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" revealed that Aymeric Laporte offered himself to Barcelona club during the current period, but the latter does not want a clash with Athletic Bilbao, especially after the crisis that arose between the two clubs over Nico Williams' incomplete deal.
Laporte's contract with Athletic Bilbao runs until 2028, and the agreement between the two parties does not include a release clause, meaning that if Barcelona wishes to sign the defender, it will need to negotiate directly with his club, which is unlikely at the present time.
The report clarified that Barcelona is not interested in signing Laporte, as Hansi Flick, the team's head coach, believes he has enough players in defense and does not need any reinforcements.
Barcelona has Gerard Martin, who has taken up the left-back position, in addition to Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, and Ronald Araujo who remains available, alongside Jules Kounde and Alvaro Cortez.
