Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, believes that Spanish international Rodri is the most deserving candidate for the Ballon d'Or following his exceptional performance in the recent World Cup tournament.
The Spanish national team was crowned champion of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Argentina in the final with a 1-0 victory.
In 2024, Rodri and Vinícius Júnior were the only two candidates, followed by Ousmane Dembélé in 2025, whereas this year there are at least more than two contenders.
Tebas has endorsed Rodri to win this year's Ballon d'Or, believing the midfielder deserves to claim the award again following his outstanding display at the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking in remarks cited by Barca Universal, Tebas said: "Despite being absent for long periods due to injury, he delivered an amazing performance in the World Cup he participated in—truly a remarkable display."
He added: "I believe Rodri deserves to win the Ballon d'OR once again."
Rodri was indeed the key difference-maker for the Spanish national team that won the World Cup, as the midfielder received the tournament's Best Player award.
However, Rodri faces fierce competition in his quest to secure the second Ballon d'Or of his career.
Although the Spanish player delivered an outstanding performance at the World Cup, he will face stiff competition from his Barcelona teammate, Lamine Yamal.
Yamal was a crucial element in Barcelona's brilliance last season and was also part of the Spanish national squad at the World Cup.
Harry Kane is another strong contender, having enjoyed a fantastic season with Bayern Munich, contributing to the team's Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles; however, he was unsuccessful in winning both the UEFA Champions League and the World Cup.
Kylian Mbappé also stands a chance after winning the top scorer award last season. Nevertheless, the forward failed to secure any major trophy, which could significantly diminish his prospects.
