The Senegalese Football Federation announced today, Sunday, the dismissal of the national team coach Babi Thiao following the failure in the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The Senegalese national team bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup from the round of 32 after losing to Belgium with a score of 3-2.
The Senegalese Federation issued an official statement announcing the departure of Babi Thiao and his entire technical staff.
The Senegalese Federation's statement was as follows:
"The Senegalese Football Federation informs the public that, following the meeting of the Executive Committee, it was decided to initiate procedures to terminate the duties of the national coach Babi Bouna Thiao, as well as his entire technical staff"
"This decision comes after the Senegalese national team's exit from the round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup tournament".
"After a comprehensive evaluation of the sporting results and the prospects of the national team, the Executive Committee deemed it necessary to initiate procedures that serve the interest of Senegalese football".
"For this purpose, the President of the Senegalese Football Federation, Mr. Abdullah Val, was tasked with notifying the competent authority of this decision and ensuring that the person concerned is officially notified, in accordance with the applicable legal, regulatory, and contractual provisions".
"The Executive Committee also authorized the President of the Federation to take all necessary measures to carry out a comprehensive and genuine reorganization of all national teams"
"Furthermore, the President of the Senegalese Football Federation will hold a press conference on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium".
"This meeting with the media will be an opportunity to present the reasons for this decision, assess the status of the national team, and address the vision and future plans"
The Senegalese Football Federation reaffirmed its commitment to working in accordance with procedures, transparency, and good governance in order to preserve the supreme interest of Senegalese football.
