Liverpool youth player Rio Ngumoha revealed the advice he received from Mohamed Salah before the Egyptian star left the club, confirming that Salah had the greatest impact on his career so far.
Ngumoha told the "Liverpool Echo" newspaper that Salah was keen during their recent time together at Liverpool to help and guide him, particularly regarding improving his attacking numbers.
The young player explained: "The player I have probably learned more from than anyone else is Mohamed Salah. When he was at Liverpool, he taught me a lot, especially in the final period when he knew he would be leaving. He helped me a great deal."
He added: "As he always says about looking at his numbers, he would always tell me, 'Rio, you know you are a good player, but to reach the top, you need to add goals and assists.'"
He continued: "That will come naturally, but he was going through small things like this with me."
The player noted that Salah's initial conversations with him were a special moment for him, saying: "When he first started talking to me, it was like, 'Oh my God! I have been watching you since I was little, and now you are telling me how to improve. You are helping me and guiding me.'"
He concluded: "But over time, I saw him as a very good teammate who helped me a lot, so I can thank him even more."
Ngumoha entered Liverpool history by becoming the youngest player to score a goal at Anfield, netting the winning goal in the 100th minute against Newcastle United in August 2025, at the age of 16 years and 361 days.
The player scored another goal in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Fulham in April, but he currently has two goals and one assist in 35 matches with the first team.
Ngumoha is 18 years old and has continued to feature for the England national team, having become the third-youngest player to appear in a competitive match for the Three Lions, behind Jude Bellingham and Wayne Rooney.
Salah left Liverpool during the past summer transfer window to join Trabzonspor in the Turkish league.
